    Title: Legal Counsel, APAC — Korea and ANZ



    Key Accountabilities

    PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    Serve as day-to-day legal counsel for Evident Korea, providing local leadership and key business partners across Sales, Procurement, HR, Finance, Compliance, and other functions with timely, practical, business-oriented legal advice.

    Draft, review, localize, and negotiate Korean and English-language commercial agreements, including customer contracts, distributor agreements, service agreements, purchase/procurement contracts, NDAs, tender documents, quotation terms, marketing/promotion terms, and customer/vendor paper.

    Maintain and improve Korean contract templates, bilingual clauses, playbooks, intake procedures, and escalation guidance; support regional adaptations for APAC templates and legal processes.

    Support ANZ legal matters, initially on routine and moderate-risk commercial contracts, tenders, customer terms and conditions, service agreements, and New Zealand customer arrangements, escalating high-risk matters to the Regional Counsel, APAC & China.



    Formal Qualifications
    J.D. from an accredited Korean law school or equivalent Korean legal qualification.
    Licensed to practice law in accordance with Korean bar requirements.

    Practical legal judgment. Provides clear, usable, risk-based advice that enables the business
    to act while protecting Evident’s legal and compliance position.
    Commercial orientation: understands revenue, customer timing, tender deadlines, margin, payment terms, service obligations, distributor/channel risk, and operational realities.
    Korean and English legal drafting: able to draft, review, and negotiate Korean and English contracts, templates, clauses, and business communications with precision.
    Stakeholder management: able to work effectively with Sales, Procurement, HR, Finance, Compliance, regional legal colleagues, and outside counsel.
    Prioritization and escalation: able to independently handle routine and moderate-risk matters, prioritize competing requests, and escalate material legal, compliance, financial, reputational, or cross-border risks early.
    Process discipline: maintains accurate intake records, matter status, templates, playbooks, handover materials, and legal documentation; supports continuous improvement of APAC Legal processes.
     

    Cross-border collaboration: works effectively across Korea, ANZ, APAC, China, Japan, Singapore, the U.S., and global legal/compliance teams.
    Compliance mindset: identifies and mitigates risks involving anti-bribery/anti-corruption, Fair Trade Act, trade compliance, distributor/channel management, marketing claims, privacy, employment, investigations, and Code of Conduct matters.

    Skills:
    Excellent written and verbal communication skills in both Korean and English.
    Strong legal drafting, negotiation, analytical, and issue-spotting skills.
    Ability to translate legal risk into practical business guidance.
    Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and work independently with appropriate escalation.
    Strong professional judgment, ownership, discretion, and accountability.
    Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and comfort using legal intake, contract-management, matter-management, and collaboration tools.
    Willingness to travel as needed to support business requirements.


    Experience
    5-8 years of relevant commercial, corporate, or transactional experience with a law firm, in- house legal department, or mixed practice.
    Experience drafting, reviewing, and negotiating commercial agreements, including customer/vendor terms, distribution agreements, service agreements, procurement agreements, tenders, NDAs, and template-based agreements.
    Experience advising business stakeholders independently on routine and moderate-risk legal matters.
    Experience working in or advising a multinational company, regulated industry, medical device, life sciences, healthcare, microscopy, manufacturing, industrial technology, diagnostics, laboratory equipment, or other B2B commercial environment is preferred.
    Experience with distributors, sales agents, channel partners, third-party due diligence, public- sector tenders, university/hospital customers, and government/customer paper is preferred.
    Experience with Korea corporate governance, investigations, disputes, litigation management and employment-law issue spotting is preferred.
    Experience supporting Australia/New Zealand commercial matters or other cross-border APAC matters is preferred.
